Formal Public Consultation on Liverpool's Hospital-Based Orthopaedic and Ear, Nose and Throat Services for Adults

The local NHS is looking at ways to improve Liverpool’s orthopaedic services. We want your views on a proposal to bring teams from different hospitals together in a single orthopaedics service for the city. This would also mean some changes for ENT care.

What's happening?

As part of Healthy Liverpool, the local NHS has been looking at bringing teams from different hospitals together to provide single services for certain types of care.

The first of these proposals is for hospital-based adult orthopaedics. Orthopaedics services are used by people with injuries and diseases of their muscles, skeleton and related tissues, including the spine, joints, tendons and nerves. In Liverpool, these services currently take place at Aintree University Hospital, and the Royal Liverpool & Broadgreen University Hospitals.

Local orthopaedics doctors believe that people could receive better care if they became a single team, working across all three hospitals. This would mean some operations taking place in a different place than they do currently. For this to happen, some ear, nose and throat (ENT) services, and some urology and general surgery services would also need to move.

To find out more please read our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), download our booklet and if you would like to tell us your thoughts, you can complete our survey by clicking this link.

During this consultation, we will be out speaking to local communities about the proposed changes and what they mean. If you have a group, network, forum etc that would you like us to visit, please get in touch with the details and we will do our best to attend.
